Pitching

For the pitch contest I mentioned earlier, here are some ideas for pitches:

For Babbletongue: Mina's not an ordinary teenage girl, but she finds out how un-ordinary she really is when she learns she has hidden magic...magic that might be enough to save the universe from an evil megalomaniac, but won't be enough to save the person she loves most.

For The Red Thread: When Chloe finds herself on another world, she realizes that the hardest thing won't be finding a way home...it will be convincing her brother to come back home with her.

What are your ideas for pitches?

Nice pitches! These are query letter pitches, but I'm trying to work on my writer's conference pitch. Not so fancy, but here it is:

My book is a young adult fantasy novel about people who travel between fictional worlds, pose as minor characters, and help the heroes. When their secret society is attacked by traitors, a young member and a new recruit escape with the only means of thwarting the traitors' plans.

I LOVE that! That sounds like the perfect pitch for a conference.

Have fun at the conference! I wish I could go :(

After some suggestions by Donna at the SCBWI forum, how about this for The Red Thread:

Good girl Chloe's been pulled into a magic world where the humans can be worse than the monsters. The hardest thing won't be finding a way back home from this dangerous world...it will be convincing her addicted brother to come back home with her.

I'll take lots of notes at the conference and fill you in on all the latest.

Your new pitch has more info in it, but it doesn't trip along like the one in the post. That's the hard thing about pitches - they must be a perfect blend of style and substance.
